SHENANDOAH, Texas -- Navasota continued their winning ways, beating La Marque 31-20 at Woodforest Bank Stadium to advance to the 3A Division II Quarterfinals.
La Marque got on the board first after Reggie Franklin recovered a fumbled punt by the Rattlers Xavier Creeks. A few plays later Demun Mercer went in on a quarterback sneak. The extra point was blocked, however, and the Cougars took a 6-0 lead.
The Rattlers answered on a 17-yard Kadarius Baker to Demarcus Lee touchdown toss to take a 7-6 lead.
After a goal-line stand by the defense, the Rattler offense drove 93-yards to go up 14-6. Baker found Austin Collins on a 23-yard score. Michael Martinez added a 46-yard field goal before the break to give the Rattlers a 17-6 halftime lead.
Navasota's special teams helped them build the advantage in the third. La Marque fumbled a snap trying to punt out of their end zone, and Jaylyin Minor was there to recover for the score and a 24-6 lead.
Baker added a two-yard run in the third after a Cougar touchdown, and Navasota held on for the 31-20 win.
The Rattlers improve to 13-0 and will face West Orange Stark next week in 3A Division II Quarterfinals.
