Ross Rogers and Howard McMahan named finalists for Bryan High head coaching job

Two finalists for the Bryan High School head football coach position have been named by BISD Superintendent Dr. Tommy Wallis. Howard McMahan, head coach from Pflugerville's John B. Connally High School and Ross Rogers, previous head football coach at Harker Heights High School are the two candidates who will be reviewed by the BISD Board of Trustees at their regular monthly meeting on January 23 at 6 p.m.

The Board is expected to select one of the two finalists as the head coach for the Bryan Vikings. A total of 109 applications were received for the position.

McMahan has been the Athletic Coordinator and Head Coach of John B. Connally High School since 2007, reaching the playoffs his first year at Connally. Connally was District and Bi-District Champion in 2010 with a 10-2 season. In 2011 the team posted an 8-3 record with a trip to the playoffs. Prior to Connally HS, McMahan was Assistant Athletic Director and Defensive Coordinator for Copperas Cove High School from 2002-2007. McMahan has also served as an outside linebacker coach at Middle Tennessee State.

Ross Rogers has been the Athletic Director and Head Football Coach at Hempstead, Waller, Giddings, A&M Consolidated, and Athletic Coordinator/Head Football Coach at Harker Heights High School. Rogers' career record is 211-87-8, leading his teams to the playoffs 16 times, with eight quarter-finalist teams. Rogers coached teams to three state championship matches, winning the title in 1991 while at A&M Consolidated.
