BRYAN, TX -- The Rudder Rangers lost their homecoming game to Bastrop 27-17 Friday night at Merrill Green Stadium. It was the fourth loss in a row for the Rangers. Rudder in now 0-2 in district 16-4A play.
Rudder got the scoring started on a Tre Guyton 60 yard touchdown run. Bastrop answered with a Trae Bunton 60 yard touchdown run. The two teams were tied at seven after one quarter.
The only scoring in the second quarter was a Rudder field goal set up by a Jamarcus Davenport pass to Brendan Steptoe. The Rangers had a 10-7 halftime lead.
Bastrop took their first lead of the game when Bunton scored on a one yard touchdown run. A Bastrop field goal later in the third quarter gave the Bears a 17-10 lead after three quarters.
Bunton helped put the game away with an 89 yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter. Following a Bastrop field goal Rudder scored the final touchdown of the game when Davenport hit A'Shanian Smith with an eight yard touchdown pass.
Rudder will not play again October 14 when they travel to Manor.
