HEWITT, TX -- Friday night at 8pm at Cowboys Stadium in Arlington the Midway Panthers (13-2) will look to deny Lake Travis (15-0) its record fifth straight state football championship.
Midway Superintendent Dr. Bradford Lancaster could be considered in a "No-Lose" situation since he has a connection to both schools. When Lake Travis I.S.D. was looking for a new Superintendent recently they hired Lancaster away from Midway I.S.D. He wraps up his job with the Midway school district next week and begins his new job with the Lake Travis district when school resumes after the Christmas break.
So regardless of which team wins Friday, Lancaster could claim to be on the winning side. The College Station native who began his educational career with the College Station Independent School District, points out that he is currently a Midway Panther and Friday night will be pulling for the Red and Blue.
"I came in Monday morning {after the Class 4A Division 1 State Football Championship match up was determined} and there was a great deal of decorating done in my office reminding me of where I belong at the moment and telling me who my colors are," said Lancaster. "I don't need any reminding. Friday night I'll be wearing a Midway shirt, jacket and I'll be a Midway Panther!"
Thursday morning KBTX Sports contacted Dr. Lancaster on the phone and discussed the odds of his current district's high school playing his future district's high school. Both agreed it was about as likely as knowing somebody with the nickname "Boofie". Possible, but not probable.
The game will be televised live on Fox Sports Net-Southwest.
