NAVASOTA, Texas -- Top ranked Navasota struggled with penalties and sloppy play, but overcame enough mistakes to cruise past Lexington, the 7th ranked team in 2A, 45-13.
Kadarius Baker threw four touchdown passes, two to Solomon McGinty. McGinty unofficially has 277 yards receiving on the night. Austin Collins had a touchdown catch and added a touchdown run. Keyone Johnson caught a TD pass as well.
The Rattlers grabbed the early 7-0 lead on a 53-yard Baker to McGinty scoring strike. Navasota forced a Lexington punt, but the Rattlers fumbled the return. The Eagles recovered and scored when Kogan Garrett found London Jacob from 18-yards out. The extra point was no good and Navasota led 7-6.
Navasota added a 48-yard Baker to Collins score and a 50-yarder from Baker to McGinty to lead 21-6 at the break.
The Rattlers did suffer a big loss when senior linebacker Will Imhoff, a second-team all-state selection a year ago, was carted off in the first quarter with an ankle injury.
The Rattlers improve to 4-0 and will visit 3-1 Fairfield Friday.
The Eagles are 2-2 and will open district play at Jarrell.
