BRYAN -- The Bryan Vikings held off a huge fourth quarter rally and beat Round Rock McNeil 35-28 at Merrill Green Stadium Friday night.

The Mavericks trailed 35-7 going into the fourth, but scored 21 straight points to pull within 35-28. It took a Tyler Allen sack and forced fumble and a Zac Slaydon fumble recovery with just over a minute to play to seal the deal for the Vikings.

Bryan got off to a great start, as Chris Johnson ran for a nine yard touchdown and threw a nine yard touchdown pass to Michael Miner to give the Vikings a 14-0 first quarter lead. Kevin Jefferson added a short scoring run to give Bryan the 21-0 lead they held at the half.

After McNeil quarterback Zach Kuhn scored on a short run to get the Mavericks on the board the Vikings answered with a 95-yard kickoff return for a touchdown by Bobby Johnson. A 26-yard Jefferson run gave the Vikings their big lead at 35-7 midway through the third.

The Mavericks did not quit, and Bryan head coach Bob Bellard gives them a tip of the cap. "They just keep pounding you with stuff. We had a couple injuries here and there, some guys came in and they found something they liked. We didn't respond to it very good, it happened on both the offensive and defensive sides. We need to close the ballgame out in better shape. I thought we had some real good performances before that."

The 2-0 Vikings hit the road to The Woodlands College Park to battle the Cavaliers Thursday night before opening the 12-5A schedule at home against Ellison September 23.
