COLLEGE STATION -- The Texas A&M softball team will begin the game portion of its fall schedule on Wednesday with a doubleheader against McClennan College. First pitch is slated for 5 p.m. with the nightcap set to begin at 7 p.m. at the Aggie Softball Complex.
The Aggies return 12 letterwinners from the ’07 squad that made an appearance in the Women’s College World Series. Headlining the returnees are NFCA All-Americans Megan Gibson and Amanda Scarborough. Gibson blasted 13 homeruns during her junior campaign, to take over as the Aggie career leader (43). Scarborough continued her dominance in the circle, earning the Big 12’s Pitcher of the Year award.
New faces on the roster for 2007-2008 season are freshmen Rhiannon Kliesing (Pearland, Texas), Kara Rau (League City, Texas), Kelsey Spittler (Caldwell, Texas), Natalie Villarreal (Frisco, Texas) and Andrea Tovar (Seguin, Texas) and junior transfer Erin Blasco (Johnston City, Ill./Notre Dame).
“The players and coaches, alike, are eager to get on the field and get the fall games under way,” A&M head coach Jo Evans said. “Our fall game schedule is a very critical time of the year for us because it allows us to incorporate the new players into the program. It sets the table from which we will build our team going into the spring season.”
