COLLEGE STATION, Texas—Nearly $35,000 have been raised to date for the Tobi Oyedeji Endowed Scholarship Fund, Texas A&M head basketball coach Mark Turgeon announced Tuesday.

Turgeon said that $34,847 have been contributed to the fund, which was established in July.

“I want to thank those that have already donated and encourage others to give to this great cause that honors the many virtues that Tobi encompassed,” Turgeon said. “Through this endowment, Tobi’s legacy lives on.”

Oyedeji, who would have joined the Aggie basketball team this fall, died tragically from injuries suffered in a car accident in Houston in May. In remembrance of Tobi, the A&M men's basketball program established the scholarship fund through the 12th Man Foundation.

Scholarship funds will be used to support future basketball players in their pursuit of an undergraduate education at Texas A&M University.

An Academic All-American basketball player from Houston's Bellaire High School, Oyedeji averaged just under 16 points and eight rebounds a game as a senior. An All-State honoree, he scored 19 points, had seven rebounds and blocked five shots while being named MVP of the Academic All-American All-Star Game.

“Tobi was a very special young man and he will always be an Aggie,” Turgeon said. “We will never forget Tobi or his family.”
