NORMAN, Okla.- The 6th-ranked Texas A&M soccer team will conclude its five-day road trip through Oklahoma on Sunday as it faces the Sooners of the University of Oklahoma at John Crain Field in Norman. Kickoff is slated for 1 p.m.
Live stats and audio of the match will be available on AggieAthletics.com.
“OU is coming off a quality win Thursday night over Baylor,” A&M head coach G Guerrieri said. “They have some tremendous athletes who are playing with a lot of confidence right now, which is a dangerous combination for us to have to face on their homefield.”
The Sooners enter Sunday’s match with an overall record of 5-4-2, 1-2-0 in league play. On Thursday, OU netted three goals against the Baylor Lady Bears to earn their first conference victory of the season. Senior Tenesha Duncan came in off the bench to put away the gamewinner in the 78th minute. Freshman forward Whitney Palmer leads the Sooners offense in goals scored (6).
A&M brings an 8-2-1, 2-1-0 record into Norman. The defending Big 12 champion Aggies posted a 2-1 come-from-behind victory over the No. 22 Oklahoma State Cowgirls on Thursday night in a nationally televised game on the Fox Soccer Channel. All-American forward Ashlee Pistorius contributed a goal and the gamewinning assist. The goal, Pistorius’ 13th of the season, put her in a tie for the most career goals scored for the Big 12 (69).
Last season A&M posted a 6-1 win over the Sooners in College Station, giving the Aggies a 12-0-0 all-time advantage.
“Our players know they enter each game with a big target on their backs and are going to see the absolute best our opponents have to offer, just like in the physical battle against Oklahoma State.” Guerrieri said. “And because of that they have stayed focused after Thursday’s win and have prepared well for Sunday’s battle.”
