NEW YORK (AP) - Johnny Damon belted a three-run homer as the New York Yankees beat Cleveland 8-4 to force a Game Four in their
best-of-five AL Division Series.
Damon's shot off losing pitcher Jake Westbrook capped a four-run
fifth inning.
Robinson Canoeadded a bases-loaded single in the sixth off Aaron Fultz and two more runs scored when the ball skipped under the glove of right-fielder Trot Nixon for an error.
Cleveland led 3-0 after knocking out starter Roger Clemens in
the third, but Yankee rookies Phil Hughes and Joba Chamberlain pitched five and two-thirds innings of one-hit relief.
Damon finished with three hits and four RBIs.
Hughes picked up the win. Westbrook was tagged for six runs on
nine hits over five innings.
The win may have saved the job of Yankees manager Joe Torre as
owner George Steinbrenner told The Record of New Jersey, "I don't
think we'd take him back if we don't win this series."
Game Four is tomorrow night in the Bronx.
