COLORADO SPRINGS (October 9, 2007) - Snow College (Utah) cruised to a 33-13 victory over Phoenix College (Ariz.) on Oct. 6 to improve their record to 6-0. The win also helped the Badgers hold on to the No. 1 ranking in the NJCAA / JC Football.com Poll released Tuesday by the two parties. Snow has now won nine straight contests dating back to the 2006 season.

This week's Top 20 looks very similar to last week as all but three ranked teams were victorious. Previous No. 13 Lackawanna College (Pa.) fell to Erie Community College (N.Y.) 20-17, then-No. 16 Northeastern Oklahoma A&M College fell to Navarro College (Texas) 34-12 and previous No. 20 Coffeyville Community College (Kan.) was defeated by No. 2 Butler Community College (Kan.) 20-13.

The top five is identical to last week with Snow receiving 102 total votes and five of seven first place votes. Butler is again at No. 2 and received one first place vote, followed by Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College at No. 3 who also received a first place vote.

Eastern Arizona College is again ranked fourth and Jones County Junior College (Miss.) is ranked fifth.

Snow racked up 493 yards of total offense in their 33-13 victory over Phoenix College. The Badger defense, which is ranked first in the NJCAA in total defense, forced Phoenix to punt on their first seven possessions of the game. Snow was once again led by a strong rushing performance from Soni Sotele. He gained 207 yards on 33 carries and scored two touchdowns. Snow also got 104 yards on 14 carries from Niu Takai. Quarterback Houston Erbstoesser was 14-of-26 for 186 yards and a touchdown in his second start of the season. Snow held a 23-0 lead at halftime.

Snow will next face a tougher challenge when they host No. 10 Glendale Community College (Ariz.) Oct. 13 at Badger Stadium in Ephraim, Utah.

Butler came from behind to defeat long-time rival Coffeyville Community College (Kan.) 20-13 last Saturday. The Grizzly defense was put to the test as 10 of Coffeyville's first 12 offensive drives started in Butler territory. However, the Grizzlies managed allow just 44 rushing yards to the Red Ravens, who entered the game as the best rushing team in the Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference.

The Grizzlies trailed 13-7 at the half, but pulled ahead 14-13 early in the third quarter when back-up quarterback Mike Garrison engineered a 95-yard drive capped off by a 10-yard pass to wide receiver Cole Baschamp. Butler would then seal the win with a 68-yard touchdown run from Beau Johnson with 20 seconds left in the third quarter. Johnson finished the game with 135 yards on 17 carries.

Butler, now 6-0 overall and 4-0 in conference play, will host No. 13 Fort Scott Community College (Kan.) Oct. 13, who is also 4-0 in the KJCCC, in a contest that will likely determine the league's regular season champion.

Mississippi Gulf Coast entertained Bulldog fans in the comforts of A.L. May Memorial Stadium in Perkinston for just the second time this season on Thursday, Oct. 4. The Bulldogs rewarded their fans with a 41-24 victory over East Central Community College (Miss). Four of the Bulldogs' previous five contests were on the road.

Quarterback Genario McNealy threw for 179 yards and two touchdowns and Demond Washington rushed for 133 yards. The Bulldogs improved to 6-0 overall and 4-0 in the South Division of the Mississippi Association of Community & Junior Colleges (MACJC).

Up next for the Bulldogs is an Oct. 11 home date versus No. 16 Northwest Mississippi Community College.

Last Saturday also featured a match-up of the top two rushing teams in the NJCAA in No. 4 Eastern Arizona and New Mexico Military Institute. NMMI entered the game averaging a NJCAA-best 353.8 rushing yards a game, while Eastern Arizona was second with 329.8 yards per contest.

The Gila Monsters proved to be too much for the Broncos as they out-gained NMMI on the ground 269 to 145. EAC quarterback Patrick Riley had a game-high 104 yards on 16 carries including two touchdowns.

The win is Eastern Arizona's seventh of the season. They are the lone team in the poll with a 7-0 record. The Gila Monsters are off this week before they travel to No. 15 Mesa Community College (Ariz.) on Oct. 20.

Jones County Junior College (Miss.) looked as if they were going to be handed their first loss of the season on Thursday, Oct. 4, thanks in part to a 19-18 deficit to Southwest Mississippi Community College late in the fourth quarter. The chances for a Bobcat win looked bleak when Southwest faced a third-and-six from their own 26-yard line with 2:20 left in the game. A Southwest first down and JCJC's dream on an undefeated season would be over.

However, Southwest decided to throw the football to get the first down and Jones County defensive back Mark Gray was not fooled, jumping the route of his receiver in the flat to intercept the pass and return it 32 yards for the game-winning touchdown. The Bobcats improbable 26-19 win improved their overall record to 6-0 and their MACJC Division record to 3-0.

JCJC has arguably the toughest two weeks of any team in the country lurking in front of them. On Oct. 13 they will travel to defending MACJC Champion and No. 6 Pearl River Community College (Miss.). In two weeks (Oct. 20) they will host No. 3 Mississippi Gulf Coast.
