Softball Heads to Spring for Fall Tournament

COLLEGE STATION - The Texas A&M softball team will continue its fall exhibition season on the road this weekend at the Spring/Klein College Classic in Spring, Texas. The Aggies will begin play in the tournament at 12:15 p.m. Saturday against Southern Mississippi.

Southern Miss first-year coach Howard Dobson welcomes back 14 letterwinners from last year's team, including five seniors, three juniors and six sophomores. The Golden Eagles posted an 18-38 overall record, 8-14 in Conference USA.

The Aggies return 12 letterwinners from the ’07 squad (46-14, 12-6) that made an appearance in the Women’s College World Series. A&M is under the helm of head coach Jo Evans who is entering her 12th season.

The Aggies return to the diamond at 4:45 p.m. Saturday afternoon against Louisiana-Lafayette.

The Ragin’ Cajuns compiled an impressive 34-8 overall record, 7-2 in league play. ULL fell to Sam Houston State, 2-1, in extra innings at the College Station Regional to end their ’07 season. The Cajuns are under the direction of Co-Head Coach Stefni Lotief who enters her seventh season.

A&M will close out tournament play Sunday against Texas-San Antonio and San Jacinto College at 9:30 a.m. and 11:45 a.m. respectively.

UTSA recorded a 27-31 overall record, 18-12 in Southland Conference play for the ’07 season. Prior to last season, the Roadrunners had a streak of three consecutive Southland Conference regular season championships. UTSA is coached by Lori Cook who is entering her second season.

San Jacinto College is led by head coach Kelly Swanson-Saenz. The Coyotes have captured three conference championships and two Region 12 Championships.
