COLLEGE STATION, Texas- The 5th-ranked Texas A&M soccer team will continue its quest to capture its fourth consecutive Big 12 championship on Sunday as it hosts the Colorado Buffaloes at the Aggie Soccer Stadium. Game time is set for 1 p.m.
The Aggies enter Sunday’s match with an overall record of 10-2-1, 4-1-0 in league play after posting a 2-0 shutout over the No. 1 Texas Longhorns on Friday night. Senior midfielder Amy Berend scored the gamewinner in just the sixth minute. All-American Ashlee Pistorius netted an insurance goal in the 72nd minute en route to becoming the Big 12 career leader in goals scored (70). Pistorius has scored 14 goals in 13 games this season.
"This is going to be a tough match for us, especially coming off such a big win over the Longhorns on Friday night,” A&M head coach G Guerrieri said. “The 12th Man really came out and gave a boost in that win, and we're hoping for more of the same against a very talented CU team that's playing well and seem to be full of confidence."
Colorado came from behind on Friday to hand the Baylor Lady Bears a 3-2 loss in Waco. With the win, CU improved to 7-3-3, 3-1-0 in conference play. Nikki Marshall leads the way for the Buffaloes' scoring attack, having posted seven goals on the season. On Friday, Marshall not only scored the equalizer, but contributed the gamewinning assist in the game’s 85th minute.
Sunday’s match represents the 17th meeting between A&M and Colorado. The Aggies hold a commanding 14-1-1 all-time series lead. A&M’s only loss came last season at the Big 12 Championship in San Antonio, falling in double overtime 2-3. The Ags shut out a then No. 14 CU, 3-0, earlier in the season on the road in Boulder, Colo.
