COLLEGE STATION, Texas- Texas A&M soccer players Ashlee Pistorius and Rachel Shipley earned Big 12 Offensive and Newcomer of the Week honors, the league office announced.
Pistorius helped the Aggies post victories over No. 1 Texas and Colorado to gain the top stop in the conference standings. The All-American forward became the Big 12 career leader in goals scored (71) after she converted her fourth career penalty kick against the Longhorns on Friday. Pistorius also contributed an assist for the game-winning goal against Texas. Sunday, against the Buffaloes, Pistorius posted another goal and assist, bringing her season total to 15 goals in 14 games with five assists. The goal tied the match at 2-2 after A&M started the second half down 0-2. Heading into the weekend, Pistorius was ranked fifth in the nation in points per game (2.42) and goals per game (1.08). The award was the second of the season for the senior from Bloomington, Ill.
Shipley earned her first Big 12 honor after coming in off the bench against Colorado to net her first collegiate goal and fifth assist as the Aggies posted a come-from-behind victory over the Buffaloes, 4-2. Shipley’s assist was to Pistorius for her 15th goal of the season in the 70th minute. The freshman from Plano, Texas sealed the victory just nine minutes later, netting the Aggies’ fourth goal in just 13 minutes.
The 5th-ranked Texas A&M soccer team will continue to battle through conference play as it heads to Ames, Iowa on Friday to face the Iowa State Cyclones at 7 p.m.
