LINCOLN, Neb.- The 3rd-ranked Texas A&M soccer team continues its quest for a fourth consecutive Big 12 championship on Sunday as it faces the Nebraska Cornhuskers at the Nebraska Soccer Field in Lincoln, Neb. Kickoff is slated for 1 p.m.
“It is always tough to play a Big 12 opponent on the road, especially one like Nebraska who has a history of winning,” A&M head coach G Guerrieri said. “Our girls worked hard to get a positive result on Friday against Iowa State and are looking to come away with another victory on Sunday against the Huskers.”
The Aggies enter Sunday’s match with a 12-2-1 season record and have posted a 6-1-0 mark in league play. A&M earned the sixth conference win on Friday 1-0 against Iowa State in Ames, Iowa. Forward Melissa Garey was credited with the gamewinner after the senior captain out-hustled the Cyclone defense, collecting the ball and sending it past the ISU keeper in the 18th minute.
Nebraska will face A&M with a 5-7-3 overall record. The Huskers are 1-5-0 in Big 12 play. On Friday, NU dropped a 1-4 decision to the Baylor Lady Bears at home. Nebraska outshot Baylor 29-8 on the evening. Anna Caniglia scored the Huskers only goal of the match.
Sunday’s game marks the 23rd meeting between the Aggies and Cornhuskers.
Nebraska leads the all-time series 13-9-0. A&M has won the last four meetings, including a 2-1 win in College Station in ’06.
