COLLEGE STATION -- Texas A&M junior Triin Aljand (Tallinn, Estonia) was named the Big 12 Women¹s Swimmer of the Week by the conference office on Wednesday.

Aljand, a four-time individual Big 12 champion and former Big 12 Newcomer of the Year, led the Aggies to an impressive 117-88 win over the University of Texas at the Big 12 Relays in Ames, Iowa, last weekend. Aljand swam on six winning relays and earned an NCAA consideration time of 55.08 in leading off the 3 x 100 fly relay.

The following day, Aljand earned wins in both the 50-yard freestyle (23.72) and 100-yard butterfly (56.66) against Iowa State and Missouri. She also swam on the winning 200 medley and 200 free relays.

The honor is the second of Aljand¹s career. She was also named Big 12 Swimmer of the Month in October of 2005, the start of her freshman season.
Texas A&M has won five of the last 10 Big 12 weekly/monthly awards since the start of the 2005-06 season.

Aljand and the Aggies will be back in action on Friday and Saturday at the SMU Invitational as well as in Denton on Saturday for dual meets against Northern Arizona and North Texas.
