SAN DIEGO (AP) - It was business as usual for the San Diego
Chargers in a 35-10 rout of the Houston Texans.
Tailgaters packed into Qualcomm Stadium's parking lot with smoke
from blazes still burning to the east. The Chargers helped fans
forget about the area wildfires for a few hours, jumping out to a
35-3 lead in the first half.
Philip Rivers hit Antonio Gates for touchdowns of 49 and 31
yards. Cornerback Antonio Cromartie also scored a pair of
first-half touchdowns, first on a fumble recovery in the end zone,
and the second on a 70-yard interception return. Cromartie picked
off two passes for the Chargers, who moved into a tie for the AFC
West lead at 4-and-3.
Rivers threw the last of his three scoring strikes to Chris
Chambers with 2:31 left in the opening half. Rivers was 7-of-11 for
130 yards and no interceptions.
The Texans finished the game without Matt Schaub, who was hit in
the second quarter following his second interception. The exact
nature of the injury wasn't immediately announced.
Backup Sage Rosenfels threw a 28-yard TD pass to Joel Dreesens
late in the game.
The Texans are 3-and-5.
