COLLEGE STATION -- The fall tournament season comes to a close as the Texas A&M men’s tennis team competes at the University of Texas Invitational on Nov. 2-4 in Austin, Texas.
Representing the Aggies at the three-day tournament are senior Matt Bain (Georgetown, Texas), sophomore Brad Williams (Cape Town, South Africa) and freshman Kayvon Karimi (Dallas, Texas). Just a week ago, Bain won four-straight matches in consolation singles play at the ITA South Central Regional Championships held at UT’s Penick-Allison Tennis Center. He advanced to the consolation finals, while Karimi reached the consolation quarterfinals.
“Our guys will face a strong tournament field at the UT Invitational this weekend,” Texas A&M head coach Steve Denton said. “Right now, our main goal is to get in a lot of match play. We look forward to Matt competing as well as he did at regionals and for our younger players, Brad and Kayvon, to continue to improve on their games in preparation for the spring.”
The competitive field includes players and doubles teams from A&M, Arizona State, Ball State, Baylor, St. Edward’s, Nebraska, Boise State, Arizona, Florida Atlantic, Texas-Arlington, UTSA, Laredo Community College, Oregon, Denver, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, Marquette and host Texas. The Aggies have laid claim to the tournament doubles title the past two years as Bain and teammate Conor Pollock captured the doubles title last fall. A&M will look to continue that stronghold with the doubles combination of Bain and Williams this weekend.
The tournament consists of two singles draws and one doubles draw with consolation rounds to be contested in each draw. The first day of competition begins Friday at 8:30 a.m.
