Bain and Williams Advance to Round of 16 at UT Invitational

AUSTIN – Texas A&M’s Matt Bain (Georgetown, Texas) and Brad Williams (Cape Town, South Africa) advanced to the round of 16 in singles and doubles at the University of Texas Invitational held Friday at the Penick-Allison Tennis Center.

The fifth-seeded Bain downed Wes Miller of Arizona State, 7-6, 6-1, while Williams topped Renato Melo of Nebraska, 7-6, 6-2. Freshman Kayvon Karimi (Dallas, Texas) lost a three-set match to second-seeded Olivier Sajous of Florida Atlantic, 6-1, 4-6, 6-0.

Bain and Williams also found success in doubles as the fourth-seeded duo defeated Nenad Maric and Rodrigo Morgado of UTSA, 8-6, in the round of 32. Karimi combined with Jamaal Hepburn of Boise State and the pair fell to Wes Miller and Matt Brooklyn of Arizona State, 8-2. Competition continues tomorrow at 8:30 a.m.
