HUNTSVILLE - Sam Houston State junior quarterback Rhett Bomar suffered a torn ACL to his left knee during Saturday's 16-13 victory over Nicholls State, and he is out for the season.
With less than two minutes to play in the first half, Bomar kept the ball on a draw play and ran toward the left sideline where he was hit for a
three-yard gain. Prior to leaving the game, Bomar had thrown for 159 yards on 10-of-16 passing.
He was replaced by senior Brett Hicks. Hicks finished the game completing 9-of-19 passing for 92 yards and an interception.
Hicks was the starting quarterback for the Bearkats last season, starting eight games while leading the Bearkats to a Southland Conference runner-up finish. He threw for 1,773 yards and eight touchdowns, earning him and honorable mention All-Southland Conference selection.
