COLLEGE STATION - Senior center Cody Wallace and sophomore defensive back Jordan Peterson were named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District VI squads as selected by members of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). With their selections, the players will move forward to the national ballot and the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America football team will be announced on Thursday, Nov. 29.
Wallace, a pre-season All-America center, earned first-team ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District honors last fall. The Cuero High School product has started 36 straight games at center. He is responsible for calling signals along the offensive front. The offensive line has helped pave the way for the 11th-ranked rushing attack this season. He graduated in May of 2007 with a degree in kinesiology and posted a 3.42 grade-point. He was voted a team captain for the 2006 squad.
Peterson, from Lexington High School, has posted a 3.81 grade-point in sports management. He was named to the Freshman All-Big 12 squad last season as selected by The Sporting News. He started nine of 13 games last season. This year he missed one game due to injury, but has been a steady performer in the defensive backfield and has also returned punts.
Aggie quarterback Stephen McGee, a junior from Burnet High School, was nominated at quarterback for the academic honor team with a 3.25 grade-point in marketing. He earned his degree in August of 2007.
All three of these young men are members of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes and are active in Aggie Athletes Involved.
To be eligible, a player must be at least in his second year at that institution and must have a cumulative grade-point of 3.20 or better to be nominated.
The Aggie football team faces Top 10-ranked Missouri on Saturday in Columbia, Missouri.
