COLLEGE STATION -- Top state and local standout Austin Klores (Franklin, Texas) has signed a national letter of intent to join the Texas A&M men’s tennis team for the 2008-09 season as announced by head coach Steve Denton Friday.

Klores, a 5-foot-10 right-hander out of Franklin High School, is rated the No. 42 overall prospect in the class of 2008 by the Tennis Recruiting Network. He is a three-time defending state 2A singles champion and was ranked as high as No. 1 in the USTA Boys 18’s. Klores was also a member of the USTA Texas Section Junior Davis Cup Team coached by Denton this past summer.

“We are very excited to have Austin join our program next fall,” Denton said. “He’s a diamond in the rough and has a lot of potential for the future. He’s a hard worker and has a passion for tennis. With those two things combined, Austin will be a major contributor to our team in the years to come.”

Klores is the second tennis phenom from Franklin High School to sign with the Aggies. Former A&M standout Scott Phillips (1990-93), a two-time state singles champion, won three Southwest Conference singles titles and still ranks among the top 10 players in school history with 66 career singles victories in dual match play.
