Bryan scored quickly. Stony Point scored often.
The Tigers topped the Vikings, 49-20, in the Class 5A Division One bi-district playoffs Friday night.
The game didn't start that way.
On the first offensive snap, the Vikings' Stan McGruder barreled through a hole big enough to accommodate a school bus. McGruder sprinted 82 yards to the end zone and the Vikes had a 7-zip lead.
That was the last time Stony Point would look like a team making the first playoff appearance in school history.
Late in the second quarter, Bryan quarterback Garrison Kickham was injured on a sack, and limped to the sideline to have a large ice pack applied to his knee.
The scores was tied at the intermission, but the momentum was with the Tigers.
They took the lead for good in the third quarter when quarterback Nykolas McKissic scored from four yards out on a keeper to make it 21-to-14.
The Cats recovered the ensuing kickoff and put another touchdown on the board when McKissic hit Stephen Williams with a 29 yard rainbow upping the count to 28-to-14.
It was 35-to-14 by the time the third quarter was over, making the final stanza academic.
Stony Point improves to 9-&-2 for the year.
Bryan ends its campaign at 6-&-5.
