Seven Aggies Named To Academic All-Big 12 Team

IRVING, Texas --- Seven members of the Texas A&M football team were named to the 2007 Academic All-Big 12 Team, the conference office announced on Tuesday.
Senior quarterback T.J. Sanders received special commendation for posting a perfect 4.0 grade point average while pursuing a degree in kinesiology. Sanders, who has seen action the last three years as a backup, is seeking admittance to medical school.
Also named to the Academic All-Big 12 first team, which requires a 3.2 or higher GPA were senior David Latham (finance), junior Stephen McGee (marketing), sophomore Jordan Peterson (sports management) and senior Cody Wallace (kinesiology). McGee and Wallace have already earned their respective degrees, and are currently enrolled in graduate school.
Named to the second team, which requires a 3.0-3.19 GPA, were senior Andrew Key (management) and senior Chris Yoder (sports management).
Nominated by each institution’s director of student-athlete support services and the media relations offices, the football academic all-league team consisted of 92 first team members combined with 59 on the second team.
To qualify student-athletes must maintain a 3.00 GPA or higher either cumulative or the two previous semesters and must have participated in 60 percent of his team’s scheduled contests. Freshmen and transfers are not eligible in their first year of academic residence. Senior student-athletes who have participated for a minimum of two years and meet all the criteria except percent of participation are also eligible.
