ATLANTA -- Assured by Les Miles he would stay as their coach, the fifth-ranked LSU Tigers beat 14th-ranked Tennessee 21-14 in the Southeastern Conference championship game. It's the Tigers' first SEC title since 2003.
Jonathan Zenon scored on an 18-yard interception return with
9:54 left to put 11-and-2 LSU ahead. Darry Beckwith picked off
another pass deep in Tigers territory to seal it. The win sent LSU
home with a spot in the Sugar Bowl in New Orleans at the Superdome.
That ends the Vols' five-game winning streak. The 9-and-4 Vols
might wind up in the Outback Bowl.
With speculation swirling that he would soon leave for Michigan,
Miles put aside the distractions. He met with his players earlier
in the day and told them he wasn't going anywhere.
