Lady Bucs Improve Standing In Hoops Poll

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (Dec. 5, 2007) - The Blinn Lady Bucs are up five positions to number 17 in the latest NJCAA women's basketball poll.

They are tied for 17th with Copiah-Lincoln of Wesson, MS.

The Blinn women host Jacksonville Wednesday at 5:30pm.

The Buccaneer men host Jacksonville at 7:30.

Gulf Coast Community College retains the number one sport this week with Central Arizona College second and eight points separating the two programs. This week Gulf Coast received all eight first-place votes from the committee.

Gulf Coast, Region 8 runner-up last season, improves to 10-0 with a 80-61 win over Seminole Community College and a 94-65 win over Monroe Community College. The Commodores rank third in the nation averaging 94.2 points per game, led by Janae Stokes (15.1 ppg), Chimere Jordan (13.8 ppg), Alexis Givands (12.3 ppg) and Jackie Sanders (11.4 ppg). National runner up last season, Central Arizona, improves to 8-0 with a 79-55 win over Cochise College and 91-43 South Mountain Community College. The Vaqueros are averaging 77.6 points per game, led by Janae Miller (12.3 ppg), Precious Robinson (12.9 ppg) and Tenaya Watson (11.5 ppg). Complete Central Arizona statistics.

Moving up two spots to third this week is Barton County Community College. The Cougars improve to 11-0 with a 80-30 win over #21 Kansas City Kansas Community College and a 77-45 win over Allen County Community College. Barton County ranks sixth nationally, averaging 86.4 points per game. Leading the way is Courtney Sturdivant (14.1 ppg), Ipek Turkyilmaz (12.3 ppg), Inga Muciniece (12.8 ppg), Kristine Silaraja (11.2 ppg) and Jessica Halsig (10.2 ppg). Southeastern Illinois moves up two spots to fourth this week. The Falcons improve to 9-1 with wins over #13 Jefferson College (76-70), Mineral Area College (81-61) and Malcolm X College (104-34). Southeastern Illinois ranks nationally in team offense (14th, 81.3 ppg) and team defense (19th, 55.0 ppg) this season. Three players average double-figures for the Falcons: Armelie Lumanu (17.7 ppg), Chanel Mokango (16.3 ppg) and Rima Kalonda (11.8 ppg). Complete Southeastern Illinois statistics.

Rounding out the top five this week is Tyler Junior College. The Apaches improve to 11-1 with a 79-72 overtime win over Lon Morris College. The duo of Kelly Stewart and Yoshica Spears lead the Tyler offense, averaging 12.3 and 10.4 points per game, respectively. Complete Tyler Junior College statistics.

Blinn moves up five spots to 17th with wins over Temple, McLennan and San Jacinto.
South Plains enters the poll at 19th with a 73-41 win over Frank Phillips College.
Miles enters the poll at 20th with a 86-48 win over Rocky Mountain JV and a 75-50 win over North Dakota State College of Science.
Santa Fe enters the poll at 21st with a 85-79 win over #3 Chipola College and a 93-67 win over Tallahassee.
Northeastern drops five spots to 22nd despite a 71-44 win over Air Force Prep.
Vincennes drops five spots to 25th with loss to #6 Southeastern Illinois and #13 Jefferson.
Seward County drops from 12th to others receiving votes with losses to Johnson County (D2) and Independence.
Rend Lake drops from 25th to others receiving votes with a loss to Illinois Central (D2).
Kansas City Kansas drops from 21st to out of the rankings with losses to #5 Barton County and Northeastern Oklahoma A & M.
