AMES, Iowa -- Jiri Hubalek scored 15 points and teammate Rahshon Clark added 14 as Iowa State beat rival Iowa 56-47 this afternoon in Ames.
The Cyclones not only won the Cy-Hawk trophy but also snapped a
five-game losing streak against instate opponents.
Iowa State (4-4) had an inspired defensive effort, holding Iowa
(6-5) below 50 points for just the second time this season.
Iowa junior guard Tony Freeman, who scored 15 points in his
season debut on Wednesday against Northern Iowa, sat out with a
sore foot -- and Iowa missed his offense. The Hawkeyes shot just 32
percent from the floor.
Freshman Jarryd Cole had 15 points and nine rebounds to lead
Iowa.
