JACKSON, Miss. -- Southern Mississippi has hired Oklahoma
State assistant Larry Fedora as its new football coach.
A person close to the Golden Eagles program, who spoke to The
Associated Press on condition of anonymity because an official
announcement had not been made, confirms Fedora has been chosen to
replace Jeff Bower, who resigned last month after 17 years on the
job.
A news conference is scheduled later today (2 p.m. EST) to
officially announce Fedora's hiring.
It comes as no real surprise. Fedora visited the Southern Miss
campus last week, and had been considered the front-runner in the
search for a new coach.
Fedora just completed his third season as the Cowboys' offensive
coordinator and has 16 years of college coaching experience. This
is his first job as head coach.
