COLLEGE STATION -- Texas A&M infielders Blake Stouffer and Luke Anders were named to the 2008 Brooks Wallace Award preseason watch list, the Collegiate Baseball Foundation announced.
The award is presented annually to the national collegiate baseball player of the year. The CBF will trim the list to 20 quarterfinalists in late May and to 10 semifinalists following NCAA regional play. Three finalists will be named in mid-June.
Stouffer, a senior from San Antonio, was at or near the top of every offensive category for the Aggies last season. A consensus All-America selection and first-team All-Big 12 and all-region pick, Stouffer hit .385 with 12 home runs, 85 RBI and a .668 slugging percentage while swiping 22 bases. His 102 hits and 23 doubles in 2007 ranked third all-time on the school’s charts. Stouffer was a Wallace Award quarterfinalist last season.
Anders, a junior from College Station, was a first-team All-Big 12 and all-midwest region selection in 2007 after hitting .336 with 11 home runs and 46 RBI. He ranked second on the team in on-base percentage (.422) and third in slugging percentage (.555), and committed just one error while seeing action at first base and in both right and left field.
