COLLEGE STATION -- Steve Canon has been hired as the manager for the Texas A&M equestrian team's new facility Head Coach Tana Rawson announced on Tuesday.
Canon will be the equine facility manager for the new barn and practice
arena that will be built adjacent to the Brazos County Expo Center this
spring. The Aggies are currently scheduled to continue practicing and
competing at N.W. ?Dick¹ Freeman Arena for the duration of the 2007-08 athletic year.
³We are very excited about adding Steve to our staff,² Rawson said. ³He comes to us with a great background and a wealth of knowledge that will only help us as we further our program.²
Canon earned a bachelor¹s degree in recreation, parks, and tourism from Texas A&M in 2001. He recently finished up a master¹s degree in agriculture this August from A&M in equine reproduction.
Following the completion of his undergraduate degree, Canon served as the horse program director at the Rockin C Ranch in Lindale from 2001 to 2004
He moved to Caldwell in 2004 to serve as a personal trainer and farrier,
which he has done in six counties, until his recent hire onto Texas A&M
"I am excited about this new position with the equestrian team,² Canon said.
³I get to work with great coaches and staff, and I am looking forward to
seeing the facilities built and the new opportunities that the future will
hold for the team. I think that the new facilities at the Expo Center will
allow the team to become even better and remain a national leader in women's equestrian."
Steve is married to Maleigh Canon and they have one daughter, Kylan, with another daughter, Cayle Ryanne, due to be delivered this March.
