WACO, Texas -- Baylor coach Art Briles filled out most of his coaching staff today by hiring two of his assistant coaches from Houston, his son and two other people. He also retained one of the Bears coaches.
Randy Clements and Phillip Montgomery, who coached alongside
Briles at Houston and at Stephenville High, were added to the
offensive staff as co-offensive coordinators.
Larry Hoefer, who has been on Baylor's staff since 2003 and was
defensive coordinator last season, remained from former coach Guy
Morriss' staff to serve as linebackers coach.
Chris Achuff and Kendall Briles were added to the defensive
staff. Achuff spent the last two seasons at Tennessee-Martin.
Kendall Briles, Art Briles' son, played for Texas before
transferring to Houston when his father became coach there.
Kaz Kazadi, the football strength and conditioning coach at
South Florida, was hired for the same job at Baylor.
Briles was named Baylor's coach last month after five seasons
coaching at Houston.
