BROWNWOOD, Texas -- Coleman Bentley passed for 405 yards and five touchdowns today, leading the Canadian Wildcats to a 40-25 win over Elysian Fields in the Class Two-A Division Two state championship game.
In winning its first state title, Canadian (15-1) also ended a
drought for Texas Panhandle football, becoming the first team from
the area above the Class A level to win state since Dumas won the
Class Three-A crown in 1962. Canadian's title also was the
Panhandle area's first at the current Two-A level since White Deer
won in 1958.
Elysian Fields (14-2) was denied its first state title, losing
for the third time in ten years in the Two-A Division Two
championship game.
