HAMMOND, LA - Brittany Brooks scored a career high 23 points to lead Sam Houston State as the Bearkats fell to Southeastern Louisiana 87-60 in a Southland Conference women's basketball contest Thursday night.
Deltrice Daniel also scored in double figures for the Bearkats with 10
Chelsea Hix led the Lions with 13 points as Southeastern Louisiana broke an early 2-2 tie and never trailed the rest of the game. The Lions jumped out to a 25-7 lead in the first nine minutes and were up 50-19 at halftime.
The largest Southeastern Louisiana lead was 38 points, 69-31, with 11:16 to play.
Zevy Ivey scored 12 points and Kristy Carlin and Bethany Sinclair added 11 and 10 points, respectively, for the Lions who upped their season record to 7-7. The game was the Southland opener for Southeastern Louisiana.
Sam Houston fell to 1-14 and 0-2 in league action.
Lydia Gonzales led Sam Houston on the boards with her eighth double digit rebounding performance of the season. The junior pulled down 12 rebounds. Gonzales ranks as the leading rebounder in the Southland Conference women's basketball this season.
Sam Houston hit 20-of-65 from the field to shoot 30.8 percent while the
Lions were 25-of-55 for 45.5 percent.
Sam Houston State will complete its Southland Conference road trip Saturday afternoon with a 2 p.m. game against Nicholls State.
