COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (Jan. 16, 2008) - Blinn College has dropped seven positions in this week's NJCAA Division I women's basketball poll. The Lady Bucs were defeated at Tyler Saturday afternoon and fell from 10th to 17th. Gulf Coast CC remains undefeated and the unanimous top team in the poll. Also undefeated, Central Arizona remains in second this week and, capatalizing on two Barton County losses, Southeastern Illinois College moves up one to third.
Gulf Coast improves to 18-0 with wins over Tallahassee (80-45) and Pensacola (92-58). The Commodores are averaging 91.7 points per game (third nationally) led by Janae Stokes (15.8 ppg), Chimere Jordan (13.2 ppg), Alexis Givands (12.2 ppg), Jackie Sanders (11.2 ppg) and Dee Liles (10.8 ppg). Liles and Sanders are the teams rebound leaders with 7.6 and 7.1 rebounds per game, respectively. Givands has a team-leading 2.8 assists per game and Liles leads the team with 2.2 steals per game. Remaining in second Central Arizona improves their undefeated mark to 16-0 with wins over Mesa amd Yavapai. The Vaqueros are led by: Tenaya Watson (13.8 ppg, 6.0 rpg, 8.6 apg, 3.6 spg), Ashley Sours (13.3 ppg, 9.1 rpg), Precious Robinson (13.0 ppg, 7.6 rpg), Janae Miller (11.4 ppg, 3.7 apg) and Samantha Marez (10.3 ppg), Markisha Patterson (4.1 apg). Southeastern Illinois moves up one to third this week, improving to 16-1 with wins over Lake Land (77-52), Kaskaskia (67-61) and Southwestern Illinois (85-63). The Falcons have four players averaging double-figures this season led by Armelie Lumanu (18.6 ppg). Others in double-figures are Chanel Mokango (14.5 ppg), Rima Kalonda (12.3 ppg) and Christina Rozier (10.9 ppg). The University of Arkansas-Fort Smith Lady Lions also move up one this week, taking over the number four spot. The Lions improve to 15-1 with a win over Northern Oklahoma-Enid. Fort Smith is led this season by Katorra Lewis (19.0 ppg, 7.3 rpg), Tanisha Smith (16.3 ppg) and Elisa Shoate (13.1 ppg, 6.8 rpg) and Marisah Henderson (7.1 apg, 3.0 spg). College of Southern Idaho moves up one this week to fifth, improving to 16-1 overall with wins over Eastern Utah and Colorado Northwestern. The Golden Eagles rank 12th nationally with 83.3 points per game led by Maddy Plunkett (16.4 ppg), Anita Burdick (12.5 ppg) and Soana Lucet (12.2 ppg). Plunkett has a team-leading 7.6 rebounds per game followed by Lucet with 7.2 rpg. Maylene Ornelas and LaCale Pringle-Buchanan lead the team with 5.1 assists and 4.6 steals per game, respectively.

Northeastern Oklahoma A & M enters the poll at 25th with wins over Seminole State and Murray State.
Okaloosa-Walton drops to others receiving votes with a loss to #14 Chipola.
Copiah-Lincoln drops from the poll with losses to Southwest Mississippi and East Central.
Northern Oklahoma-Enid drops from the poll with a loss to #23 Connors State.
