Softball Earns No. 2 Mark In USA Today/NFCA Preseason Poll

COLLEGE STATION -- The Texas A&M softball team grabbed the No. 2 spot on the USA Today/NFCA Top 25 Preseason Poll, the association announced today.

Defending national champion Arizona secured the No. 1 slot, receiving 27 of the 29 first place votes.

The Big 12 placed five teams in the Top 25 (A&M (2), Oklahoma (5), Baylor (8), Texas (22) and Missouri (25).

In addition to the four conference opponents, A&M will face eight other teams listed in the preseason poll (Arizona (1), Northwestern (7), DePaul (10), Washington (11), Georgia Tech (17), Oregon State (18), Cal State Fullerton (21) and Louisiana-Lafayette (24).

The Aggies return eight starters, including two-time All-Americans Amanda Scarborough and Megan Gibson, and 10 letterwinners from an ‘07 squad that finished 46-14 and made its sixth appearance at the NCAA Women’s College World Series.

A&M opens the 2008 season in Cathedral City, Calif. at the Cathedral City Kickoff (Feb. 8-10).
