Eggen Lands At Louisiana Tech As Dooley Announces Two Hirings

RUSTON, LA -- Louisiana Tech football coach Derek Dooley announced the hiring of two assistant coaches to his staff on Thursday. Stan Eggen will serve as the linebackers coach for the Bulldogs, and Chino Fontenette will be the running backs coach.

Eggen comes to Louisiana Tech from Texas A&M after serving as the defensive line coach for the Aggies. Eggen has served under Dennis Franchione for the last 10 years. Eggen was at Texas A&M from 2003-07, and before he was at Alabama for two seasons where he served in the same capacity.

Eggen brings 28 years of coaching experience with him to Louisiana Tech. He also coached at TCU and worked as the defensive coordinator at UNLV from 1994-96.

"We are fortunate to be able to add someone to our staff with Stan's credentials," Dooley said. "I crossed paths with Stan many times during his 10 years with Coach Franchione and was always impressed with his professionalism, his coaching ability and his recruiting success in Texas."

Fontenette is being promoted to the running backs position after spending this season as an intern on the staff. He came to Tech last year from Tulane where he was a graduate assistant following his playing days for the Green Wave. Fontenette played quarterback, running back and wide receiver at Tulane and was a member of the 2002 Hawaii Bowl championship team. He is from Houston, Texas, and his strong ties to the area could help the Bulldogs in recruiting athletes from the area.

"Chino is a bright young coach with an excellent future in this profession," Dooley said. "He did a fine job for us last season, and it certainly helps with continuity when you are able to promote from within your program."

Both hirings are pending approval from the Board of Supervisors for the University of Louisiana System.
