SAN DIEGO -- Tiger Woods is well on his way to winning the Buick Invitational for the fourth straight year and Mother Nature may make it easier for him.
Woods fired a third-round, 6-under 66 today at Torrey Pines and
leads the field by eight shots. It's the largest 54-hole margin on
the PGA Tour since Phil Mickelson at the 2006 BellSouth Classic.
Woods stands 18-under, which ties the 54-hole Torrey Pines
record set by Woody Blackburn in 1985.
Tomorrow's round may be washed out as the forecast is for heavy
rain. Players would have to return on Monday if the course
conditions and forecast allow.
The last 54-hole event on the PGA Tour was the BellSouth Classic
in 2005, the week before the Masters.
Stewart Cink (sink) is alone in second place after carding a 69.
One shot behind at 9-under is Joe Durant after a 5-under 67.
Justin Leonard had the best round of the day, carding eight
birdies for a 7-under 65. He's in a tie for fourth at minus-7.
