LAWRENCE, KS -- Kansas football coach Mark Mangino is expected to be released from a Lawrence hospital tomorrow after undergoing tests.
A Kansas official tells The Associated Press the situation isn't
a medical emergency for Mangino, the former offensive coordinator
at Oklahoma. The coach led the Jayhawks to a 12-1 record and an
Orange Bowl victory over Virginia Tech this season.
Close friends and family members have been concerned for years
that Mangino's weight might be a health concern.
Kansas athletic director Lew Perkins has talked with Mangino
about considering gastric bypass surgery. Perkins had the surgery
Mangino says he had tests that he had put off until after the
season, and he expects to be back in the office tomorrow.
