COLLEGE STATION, Texas- The defending Big 12 Champion Texas A&M soccer team will begin its 2008 spring training session next week and will host five matches at the Aggie Soccer Stadium over the course of the non-traditional season.
“We are fortunate that NCAA rules allow us to play other teams in our non-traditional season,” A&M head coach G Guerrieri said. “These games allow us to simulate gameday competition against like-minded programs and provide our players with real game experiences during our developments portion of the college soccer calendar.”
During the spring season, the Aggies will compete in five matches beginning with the annual 7v7 tournament (2/16) before playing host to the Mexican U20 National Team (3/01). The Aggies will follow up with matches against three 2007 NCAA Tournament teams in LSU (3/02), Purdue (3/29) and Oklahoma State (4/05).
“During the spring we like to play teams that can honestly beat us; teams that are going to challenge and stretch the abilities of our players,” Guerrieri continued. “The wins and losses from the spring won’t count on our team’s record, but the experiences gained this spring will help us greatly in the games that count this coming fall.”
The Aggies claimed their fourth-consecutive Big 12 regular season title and made their 13th-straight NCAA postseason appearance as they closed out the 2007 season with an 18-4-2 mark.
Admission to the spring contests is free with the exception of the match against the Mexican U20 National Team. Tickets prices for that game will be $9 for reserved and $7 for general admission. Fans can purchase tickets by calling the ticket office at 1-888-99-AGGIE. Tickets will also be available at the Aggie Soccer Stadium one hour prior to kick off.
