COLLEGE STATION--The Texas A&M baseball team opens practice in preparation of the 2008 season on Friday, Feb. 1 at Olsen Field. The workout is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m. and is open to the public.

“It’s been a long layoff with the new start date, but we are excited to finally get everyone together as a team and get it going,” head coach Rob Childress said. “We have very high goals for the season, and every minute we can get work in to help accomplish those goals will make us that much better.”

2008 marks the first year of the NCAA’s new mandated start-date of February 22, with teams not being able to begin practice as a team until February 1. Workouts are scheduled daily, except Sundays, at 2 p.m. and are open to the public. Start times are subject to change.

The Aggies return 19 letterwinners, six position starters and two starting pitchers from a 2007 squad that went 48-19 and claimed the Big 12 Championship in Oklahoma City and the NCAA College Station Regional crown.

Texas A&M opens the 2008 season on February 22 at 6:30 p.m. when the Aggies host Northern Colorado. Season and single-game tickets for the home schedule, which features 39 games, are available now by calling 888-99-AGGIE or by logging on to www.aggieathletics.com.
