COLLEGE STATION -- The No. 20 Texas A&M men’s swimming and diving team faces top-ranked Texas in a State Farm Lone Star Showdown dual meet at 6:30 p.m. on Friday at the Student Recreation Natatorium on the A&M campus.
It will be “Senior Day” for the Aggies as seniors Ozzie Gardner (Kearns, Utah), Luke Chambless (Cleburne, Texas), Alejandro Jacobo (Leon, Guanajuato, Mexico) and Ryan Latone (Austin, Texas) will be honored before they swim in the final home meet of their careers.
“These guys started working hard as soon as they got on campus, and that’s what I appreciate about this group,” Aggie head coach Jay Holmes said. “They’ve worked hard and improved and accomplished a tremendous amount during their careers. I know it’s very important to this group to leave the program better than when they arrived.”
The Aggie men will try to build on the 4.5 points – 2 points lead Texas A&M has over the Longhorns in the State Farm Lone Star Showdown standings. A full point will be decided by the dual meet between the Aggies and Longhorns.
“Our goal is to swim fast,” Holmes said. “It’s our final meet before the Big 12 Championships, so we want to step up and race no matter the situation so we can make some final decisions before conference and NCAAs. Texas is ranked No. 1 and will be a great challenge for our team.”
The Aggies are coming off a 144-92 loss to SMU in Dallas last Friday, while the Longhorns are back in action after suffering a 200.5-152.5 loss to No. 2 Arizona in Tucson last Saturday.
Fans unable to come to the Rec can follow the action via Texas A&M’s live video stream on AggieAthletics.com.
