COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (Feb. 13, 2008) - Blinn College is up one notch while Gulf Coast Community College remains undefeated and the unanimous top team in the NJCAA Division I women's basketball poll. Also undefeated, Central Arizona College remains in second this week and following agiain in third is University of Arkansas-Fort Smith.
Gulf Coast improves to 26-0 with wins over North Florida and Okaloosa-Walton. The Commodores are averaging 86.73 points per game (fourth nationally) led by Janae Stokes (15.2 ppg), Chimere Jordan (13.0 ppg), Alexis Givands (12.1 ppg), Jackie Sanders (11.0 ppg) and Dee Liles (11.2 ppg). Liles and Sanders are the teams rebound leaders with 8.0 and 7.6 rebounds per game, respectively. Givands has a team-leading 2.8 assists per game and is tied with Liles at 2.0 steals per game. Remaining in second Central Arizona improves their undefeated mark to 24-0 with wins over Eastern Arizona and Pima. The Vaqueros are led by: Tenaya Watson (15.8 ppg, 6.3 rpg, 8.6 apg, 4.0 spg), Ashley Sours (14.5 ppg, 9.5 rpg), Precious Robinson (14.6 ppg, 7.6 rpg), Janae Miller (11.0 ppg, 3.4 apg) and Samantha Marez (9.7 ppg), Markisha Patterson (4.5 apg). The University of Arkansas-Fort Smith Lady Lions remain in thrid this week, improving to 23-1 with with wins over Carl Albert and Northeastern Oklahoma. Fort Smith is led this season by Katorra Lewis (20.0 ppg, 8.0 rpg), Tanisha Smith (18.1 ppg) and Elisa Shoate (13.0 ppg, 6.8 rpg) and Marisah Henderson (6.0 apg, 2.5 spg). College of Southern Idaho remains in fourth week, improving to 23-1 overall with two wins over Eastern Utah. The Golden Eagles rank 15th nationally with 80.9 points per game led by Maddy Plunkett (15.5 ppg), Anita Burdick (10.9 ppg) and Soana Lucet (13.8 ppg). Plunkett has a team-leading 7.6 rebounds per game followed by Lucet with 7.5 rpg. Maylene Ornelas and LaCale Pringle-Buchanan lead the team with 4.8 assists and 4.8 steals per game, respectively. Southwest Tennessee stays in the top five with, improving to 19-0 wins over Dyersburg and Jackson State. The Saluqi Dogs are led by Candace Rucker (21.2 ppg, 7.8 rpg, 4.4 spg), Starkitsha Luellen (13.7 ppg, 12.0 rpg), Keona Brooks (8.6 ppg) and Cristil Camper (3.4 apg).
