Texas Tech Will Not Play Northern Illinois

LUBBOCK, Texas -- Texas Tech has canceled its season-opening
baseball series against Northern Illinois -- where the mourning
continues over deadly gunfire.
Last Thursday's shooting deaths of five people by a gunman --
who then killed himself -- have led UNI officials to postpone
athletic events through this weekend.
The Red Raiders instead will play in a tournament this weekend
at Texas-San Antonio. Their home opener now will be March 4th
against Central Arkansas.
Texas Tech and Northern Illinois tried to reschedule this
weekend's series but couldn't find suitable dates.
The Red Raiders will open the season at 10 a.m. Saturday against
Louisiana-Lafayette in San Antonio. Texas Tech hasn't opened a
season on the road since 1998.
