COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (Feb. 20, 2008) - Blinn's Lady Bucs improve their standing, and there is a new name atop this week's NJCAA women's basketball poll.
Gulf Coast Community College suffered its first loss of the season, moving Central Arizona College into the top spot with a perfect 26-0 record. University of Arkansas-Fort Smith jumps into second place this week with Gulf Coast falling two spots to third. Remaining in fourth and fifth are College of Southern Idaho and Southwet Tennessee Community College, respectively.
Remaining in second Central Arizona improves their undefeated mark to 26-0 with wins over Mesa and Chandler-Gilbert. The Vaqueros are led by: Tenaya Watson (16.1 ppg, 6.2 rpg, 8.5 apg, 4.2 spg), Ashley Sours (13.5 ppg, 8.7 rpg), Precious Robinson (14.9 ppg, 8.0 rpg), Janae Miller (11.1 ppg, 3.7 apg) and Samantha Marez (10.0 ppg), Markisha Patterson (1.2 apg). The University of Arkansas-Fort Smith Lady Lions remain move into second this week, improving to 25-1 with with wins over Eastern Oklahoma State and Connors. Fort Smith is led this season by Katorra Lewis (20.3 ppg, 8.2 rpg), Tanisha Smith (17.7 ppg) and Elisa Shoate (13.0 ppg, 6.8 rpg) and Marisah Henderson (6.1 apg, 2.4 spg). Gulf Coast moves to 27-1 with a win over Pensacola and a loss to Tallahassee. The Commodores are averaging 85.8 points per game (fourth nationally) led by Janae Stokes (15.1 ppg), Chimere Jordan (13.4 ppg), Alexis Givands (12.0 ppg), Jackie Sanders (11.1 ppg) and Dee Liles (11.3 ppg). Liles and Sanders are the teams rebound leaders with 8.0 and 7.7 rebounds per game, respectively. Givands has a team-leading 2.7 assists per game and is tied with Liles at 2.0 steals per game. College of Southern Idaho remains in fourth week, improving to 25-1 overall with two wins over Snow College. The Golden Eagles rank 16th nationally with 80.7 points per game led by Maddy Plunkett (15.9 ppg), Anita Burdick (10.5 ppg) and Soana Lucet (15.0 ppg). Lucet has a team-leading 8.2 rebounds per game followed by Plunkett with 8.0 rpg. Maylene Ornelas and LaCale Pringle-Buchanan lead the team with 4.2 assists and 4.7 steals per game, respectively. Southwest Tennessee stays in the top five with, improving to 21-0 wins over Columbia State. The Saluqi Dogs are led by Candace Rucker (20.9 ppg, 7.9 rpg, 4.3 spg), Starkitsha Luellen (14.2 ppg, 11.9 rpg), Keona Brooks (7.8 ppg) and Tiffany Simpson (3.2 apg).
