Navasota's Season Ends Following 50-42 Loss To Canyon

AUSTIN -- Class 3A girls defending state basketball champion Canyon made the Navasota Lady Rattlers first ever trip to the state tournament a short stay.

Brittany Hampton scored 17 points and Canyon got coach Joe Lombard to within one game of his 14th state championship and career victory No. 1,000 with a 50-42 win over Navasota in the Class 3A girls semifinals.

Canyon (31-3) put together the decisive run midway throught the
third quarter to pull ahead for good. Hampton converted a 3-point
to start an 11-0 run that included consecutive 3-pointers by Jordan
Vessels and Whitney Grimes that put Canyon up 36-26.

Jamie Spriggs and Brateicka Mock each scored 19 points for
Navasota (36-4).

Lombard's career record in 30 seasons at Canyon and Nazareth is
999-92.
