BRASELTON, Ga. – For the first time in its 24-year history of running an event in Texas over Easter Weekend, the American Junior Golf Association will conduct the AJGA Championship at Traditions at The Traditions Club at Texas A&M. The event will take place in Bryan, Texas, March 20-23.
The AJGA Championship at Traditions, a 54-hole stroke play competition, will bring together a talented group of junior golfers. In total, 138 boy and girl junior golfers, age 12 to 18, will compete for top honors.
Historically, the event garners one of the strongest fields in junior golf, as evidenced by its impressive list of past champions. Lucas Glover, Brian Bateman and Bob May all won this event as teenagers before ascending to the PGA TOUR ranks. LPGA Tour players Morgan Pressel, Brittany Lang, Candie Kung, Grace Park and Cristie Kerr each earned tournament titles during their days as junior golfers as well.
This year’s tournament field will be filled through the AJGA’s Performance Based Entry system and will be officially announced March 4. Numerous spots will be held for those qualifying through the AJGA Qualifier taking place at The Traditions Club Wednesday, March 19.
Practice rounds will take place Thursday, March 20, and tournament play will begin Friday, March 21 and run through Sunday, March 23. An awards ceremony will immediately follow play March 23. Spectators are welcome to attend and admission is free of charge.
The Traditions Club at Texas A&M is located just a few hours from Houston, Austin, Dallas and San Antonio. At the center of 900 acres is the Jack Nicklaus and Jack Nicklaus Jr. designed golf course measuring 7,146 yards. The Traditions Golf Club offers players a strategic balance of challenges for low handicap golfers and enjoyment for more experienced players.
