NATCHITOCHES, La. -- Morgan Mikulin drove in six runs and picked up a victory pitching as the Sam Houston State softball team swept a double header from Northwestern State on Saturday afternoon, 7-3 and 11-3.
Mikulin (4-2) started the first game pitching for the Bearkats (9-6, 3-2) and tossed the first five innings, allowing a run on five hits while striking out four.
The Kats didn't waste anytime getting on the board. Alex Survant led off the game with a triple and scored on a double by Hailey Wiginton. Mikulin then sent a shot to center for a two-run homer.
The Kats also got a pair of RBIs from Casie Everett and one each from Survant and Whitney Wilson.
In the second game, the Bearkat offense exploded again, getting 11 runs including a six run output in the fourth inning. Three more in the fifth sealed the 11-3 win for the Kats in the five inning shortened game.
Brandi Crnkovic (5-4) picked up the win for the Bearkats, tossing all five innings, giving up three runs on six hits while striking out four.
Mikulin drove in four runs while Wiginton, Wilson and Everitt all had two. Tanya Hooser and Amanda Lindsey also drove in runs for the Bearkats.
The Kats will go for the series sweep Sunday at 1 p.m.
