WASHINGTON (AP) - A Democratic congressman from New York today asked the FBI to drop its investigation of former Houston Astros
ace Roger Clemens.
Congressman Anthony Weiner says the pitching great
has suffered enough from the probe into steroid use.
Clemens last month went before a U.S. House panel and denied
using performance enhancing substances.
Now the FBI is investigating whether the Texan -- committed
Weiner, who's running for New York mayor in 2009, says the FBI
is too busy with more important crimes to spend time trying to
determine if the ex-Yankees pitcher lied to Congress.
Weiner also suggested his fellow lawmakers have gone far enough
with inquiries into steroids use by pro athletes -- and should let
professional sports league handle the matter.
There was no immediate comment from the Justice Department.
