CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) - Carl Edwards has been dropped from the
top of NASCAR's points standings without ever getting behind the

bonus points he earned for winning at Las Vegas Motor Speedway,
because it was discovered that his car did not have a cover on the

It was NASCAR's toughest punishment to date for infractions on
its Car of Tomorrow.
In addition to Edwards' penalty, crew chief Bob Osborne was
fined $100,000 and suspended six weeks. Jack Roush was docked 100
NASCAR had already suspended five Nationwide Series crew chiefs
two weeks ago because their oil tank covers were simply loose.
Edwards' cover was actually off the tank. Competitors complain that
with the missing cover gives the car an additional downforce.
