HUNTSVILLE, TX – Zach Neal spread nine hits over six and one third innings for his second pitching win of the season and Jaime Rohlmeier went 4-for-5 at the plate to lead Sam Houston State as the Bearkats defeated South Dakota State 9-3 Saturday afternoon in a non-conference baseball game at Don Sanders Stadium.
Sam Houston State (8-3) scored its nine runs on 11 hits and four Jackrabbit errors. Keith Stein, Nick Zaleski, and Daniel Nottebart each had two RBIs. Todd Sebek had the only extra base hit for the Kats with a double.
Neal threw 96 pitches and faced 29 batters in his six plus innings of work. He struck out four Jackrabbits. Zac Baker worked the final two and two thirds innings, striking out three of the eight batters he faced.
South Dakota State (2-9) totaled 10 hits. Shortstop Erik DeJong went 2-for-3 at the plate for the Jackrabbits.
Sam Houston State and South Dakota State will play again at 7 p.m. today as part of the Hillcrest Ford Baseball Classic at Don Sanders Stadium.
